Inside the House
Your roof may not be waterproof if you notice the following anomalies inside the house:
- Ceiling stains
- Peeling paint and plaster
- Wallpaper coming off
- Discoloration at the point where walls and ceilings meet
In the Attic
Go to the attic and check for the following anomalies:
- Roofing support that is darker or damp
- Darker or damp rafters
- Wet insulation, especially after heavy rain
On the roof, if it's more than 10 years old
Look for the following anomalies:
- Protective granules of the shingles detaching
- Fine cracks on the surface of the shingle
- Accumulation of granules in the gutters
- Broken shingles
- Ripples in the horizontal alignment of rows of shingles
- Lifting tabs
- Warping
- Cracked flashings
- Overly dry caulking
